Nexus 7

I have never considered myself to be an early adopter when it comes to technology. But when the Nexus 7 was announced I wanted one, badly! However due circumstances beyond my control I was unable to get one of my very own until now. The wait has been a long one but it was worth it. This device is absolutely lovely, and as each day goes by I find new ways to keep my eyes glued to its screen. For the most part comics and novels have accounted for the majority its use, but slowly I am finding more games on the Play Store that interest me. Regarding comics, DC's "New 52" has kept me quite busy, and the more I read them, the more I want to expand into DC's older stuff. Regarding novels, I'm hooked on George R.R. Martin's "Game of Thrones" series. I first got into Game of Thrones when the series was running on HBO and after two seasons I just knew I'd have to get into the novels.

One of my goals with this device is to use it to be more productive, wether it be taking notes in class, doing online homework or as a study aid. So far the most I have accomplished is using it to follow along my Professor's power points. One thing I am looking forward to using it for is the long plane ride home. Last time I had make do with the 4-inch screen of my Galaxy Nexus and I felt that I needed a bigger screen to get the full viewing pleasure that I so desired.

All in all I am loving this device, and I can't wait for Google's 4.2 update which will make me enjoy my tablet even more.

BETA Testing

Say hello to Beat Hazard Ultra. This is an arcade shooter where you control a spaceship and blast everything in your path. Simple enough right? Well there is a bit of a twist to it just like everything else. That being, according to the games slogan "gameplay powered by your music." What this means is that you use your own music on your SD card as the sound track to this game, and the game intensifies based on your music. For example if the song being played is slow paced the enemies will be more passive, but if the song being played is fast and has various upbeats the enemies will be more aggressive and come out in bigger numbers. So as you can guess your screen can become quite chaotic.
This games is still currently in BETA and the developer has had several open BETA tests already, so the app is well on its way to completion. I stumbled across the developers site a few days ago and was saddened to find out that all his testing was already ended, but luckily for me for some reason he decided to hold one more and I knew I had to get in on it. Since the game is still in BETA most of the features are locked away, and only quick play and normal play are open. However when the game is released I'm sure he will make other game modes available as he has done in his other games, my personal favourite being Boss Rush, no explanation needed there I hope.

You control your ship with the two joysticks located on the screen. One to move the ship around and another to fire in whichever direction you choose. The joysticks can be reassigned so you choose which one you want to do what. The developer has also made it possible to incase and decrease their size as well as change where on the screen they are located. He has even made it possible for the screen to recognize your fingers and have the joysticks follow you wherever you place your thumbs.
As you can see it may sometimes get very hectic on your screen, so much so you can barely even see your own ship. Thankfully there are several power-ups you can unlock and attach  the primary one being the bomb.

The developer has limited the BETA to only playing half of your song. But after each round the number of points you attain go towards ranking you up and as your rank goes up the more goodies you unlock. All in all this is a great game and while its still in BETA I haven't found any bugs or errors. I can't wait for it to be released on the Google Play Store. There is no word on pricing as yet though, but whatever the price I surely won;t mind paying it for what looks like to be a very promising game.

Intro

Hello and welcome to WheeDroid. What is WheeDroid might you ask? Well it's just an Android blog I decided to started on a whim after having a conversation with my roommate, a fellow Android enthusiast. The focus of this blog will simply be anything Android related that I find interesting and wish to share my thoughts on. So you might be thinking "Why the name WheeDroid?" Well the town in which I'm currently residing in is often abbreviated as "The Whee" so I just decided to combine the two and ended up with WheeDroid. It sounded good enough to me so I ran with it. My goal for this blog is to simply share my opinion on things that interest me with the world, and on that note let us begin.
